When the survey about workplace bullying by Petra Boynton was published in the Times Higher in Sept ? 2005 I emailed Petra about it. She said that one of the findings was that there appeared to be collusion between the unions and employers and that she had emailed Sally Hunt about this.
I don't know what Sally's response was - but when you email her you might remind her of this. Ask her how she responded and what action if any she has taken.
Your comment and your regular visits to our blog - as well as your support - are all very much appreciated and valued.
We are not very surprised - and we suspect neither are you - that Petra Boynton identified potential collusion between the AUT and employers in relation to workplace bullying.
There are other accounts that involve NATFHE and the employers along similar lines.
We now have a golden opportunity to highlight the issue of workplace bullying in academia even if the candidates for the position of General Secretary refuse to take it onboard.
We ask for your help to promote this issue. Please speak to colleague you trust, friends you trust and help by challenging the candidates to come up with their positions and policies on workplace bullying. Visit their blogs and let them know your thoughts.
In solidarity,
Pierre-Joseph Proudhon & Louise Michel
I have put up a question on Sally Hunt's blog asking her about her position on workplace bullying and what she repled to Petra Boynton who emailed her to say that there is a feeling that the unions collude with universities in cases of workplace bullying.
I am waiting for a reply Sally.
Peter Jones, one of the 3 General secretary candidates for UCU seems to have been sacked form his job.
Maybe this will help UCU to focus on issues of workplace bullying.
What is your view Peter?

What is your view Peter?
Do we know what his job was and why he was sacked?
Right now the UCU is focused on one thing only - only one thing matters, the world has come to a halt - who will be the next general secretary!
Peter Kropotkin would suggest that we find out if Peter Jones is well.
I suggest we keep a campaign of letters and or emails to UCU to highlight workplace bullying issues in academia. The two candidates for the position, must come out with their policy on how to handle bullying but so far they are both silent on this issue.
