Often, a minor incident is conveniently blown out of proportion and the staff member in question is shown the door.

Student evaluations come in mighty handy for something like that--or did you think the purpose of those surveys was "improvement" of how the course is run?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28080901.post-59966023964179612532008-09-14T13:21:00.000+00:002008-09-14T13:21:00.000+00:00Too true, but there are also examples of the rever...Too true, but there are also examples of the reverse--postgraduate students appropriating the research and work of their supervisors, and especially being enlisted as partners in institutional bullying, particularly in the gathering of information for the elimination of staff members who have lodged complaints of bullying.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28080901.post-5207311033833854522008-09-13T17:34:00.000+00:002008-09-13T17:34:00.000+00:00I'm not surprised at this.During my years in grad ...I'm not surprised at this.

During my years in grad studies, I heard many stories of supervisors neglecting, abusing, or exploiting their students. Incidents ranged from publishing data without giving credit to the students who obtained it to leaving students in the lurch by quitting and taking a job in industry.

So much for grad students being "partners" in research as I once read in my alma mater's calendar.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
